Why We Love To Work In Yellow Springs, Ohio

This a unique, beautiful village is one of a kind. Nestled away in Greene County, north of Xenia, Yellow Springs has a rich history, unique culture, tons of cool art and a variety of attractions that truly make it one of a kind. Yellow Spring was founded in 1825 by William Mills. Mills and 100 families were looking to replicate a utopian community in New Harmony, Indiana. It didn’t work out, however, and the communitarian efforts fell apart. The village, however, remained and was named after several nearby natural springs in which waters were seen as rich in iron content, which makes them yellowish. In 1856, Yellow Springs was incorporated as a village. Established by the Christian Connection in 1850, Antioch College started offering classes in 1853. In 1920, Arthur E. Morgan became president of Antioch.

He was known for his innovations and he implemented a popular work-study program. Later, Antioch College expanded in 1964 to include 38 “centers” around the country leading up to the end of 1979. Its by-laws were changed, however, to define Antioch as a “network”, and not a college. It was then owned by Antioch University Corporation. In 1986, dozens of its units in various parts of the country were closed, leaving only six campuses. Of those that remained were its original campus in Yellow Springs. Later, in 2008 the college closed only to re-open in 2011. Today it is said to be open but it is not an accredited university. Among the many attractions in this wonderful and unique village, visitors often go hiking in the Glen Helen Nature Preserve, or along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. Yellow Springs is home to John Bryan State Park, Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, Young’s Dairy and a slew of parks and other attractions.
