Why We Love To Work In Cedarville, Ohio

Cedarville is a historic Miami Valley village and home to Ohio’s current governor, Mike DeWine. Cedarville is well-known as a friendly conservative college town; it is located northeast of Xenia in Greene County, Ohio. With a population of more than 3,900, Cedarville was originally called Milford in 1816. Eventually, in 1837, a post office using the name “Massies Creek” was established there. Later, in 1843, the village’s name was finally changed to Cedarville after a gathering of cedar trees near the original town site. From the 1880s on, public life in Cedarville centered mostly around the downtown Cedarville Opera House, which still stands to this day. Today, Cedarville is listed and registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Starting in 1887, the village became home to Cedarville University, which is a Baptist college that is well known.

Throughout the years, Cedarville has been known throughout the region for its popular Labor Day festivities, including the annual CedarFest, which started as a celebration for the town because it is the birthplace of James H. Kyle, a 19th-century American politician, and prominent Populist credited for getting the Labor Day holiday national recognition as an official federal holiday. CedarFest features a parade, a performance by the high school’s marching band, food, games, carnival rides and more. Additionally, during the first weekend of December, Cedarville has the village’s annual exterior lighting decorations, which is the village’s Little Town of Lights competition. This competition attracts people from all over the area. The festivities for this event include hay rides, outdoor Christmas caroling, photos with Santa Claus, and samples of the local food. This is in conjunction with a live Nativity scene outside of Grace Baptist Church.
